December 1st, 2015 – Call for Candidates!

As per the SLSA Constitution, we will be having a General Election to fill three Board of Director positions. The election is scheduled to be held on December 1st, 2015.

If you would like to help keep your SLSA running, please consider standing for election as an SLSA Director. As with all Director positions, the term duration will be 6 months, in these cases from December 1st 2015 until June 1st, 2016. Applications should be turned in between November 10th and November 17th.

If you wish to stand as a director, please create a note-card (IM’s cannot be accepted) in-world, stating: your name, your willingness and ability to serve a full term, any affiliations of team, product or sim ownership, and a paragraph or two outlining your background, and your vision for the SLSA.

Send the note-card to all of the current sitting directors; Robbin Ember, Rayzza Rubble, GiavannaMarie Melody, Cierra Theriac, and Valium Lavender.

If you are an eligible voter (i.e., you have competed in one of the last 6 events or volunteered in one of the last 3 events or are a hall of fame inductee), you will receive a notice when voting is open.

We sincerely wish to thank each of the following candidates, who graciously and selflessly have chosen to stand for election on June 1st. We thank these candidates for their community spirit and willingness to serve. They all deserve our appreciation. Each of the following statements was prepared by the respective candidates.

Again, to every sitting board member, and upon publication, to every member of the slsa, here is my note and offer to sit on the board. In this regard, I am willing and, if so chosen, committed to sit on the board for the next six months.

As I said before, I am affiliated with and a captain on the Montego Surf Team. In complete disclosure, I admit that I love every member of our team. However that will not come into play in my work on the board.

And nothing new, again, I do not have any plans for any major changes or improvements. Rather I see a need for some stability. I have served on the board before and have participated in events both as a surfer, marshal, judge, event coordinator, and even once as security, giggle, can you imagine me as security, although I do have a riding crop,come to think of it, hhmmmmm, wondering what the means…

In any event, I believe in commitment and hard work, when it is needed. I am a dedicated believer in our first amendment here in the United States and the ability of one to say what is on their mind and the ability of every individual to express their own person as they may choose. At the same time I understand the need for a structure to keep it all in order, but also one that incorporates each person..

Dear Directors and Fellow SLSA members,

My name is Cierra Theriac and would like to be considered for a 6-month seat on the SLSA Board of Directors that has become open.

I am a founding SLSA Director and have served again on the Board since then. I wish to give back to the organization and community that has provided me with so much. Being a director is the ultimate way that I can volunteer my time and effort to help the SLSA continue to be a successful organization and hold our beloved competitions.

Our original founding vision was to create an organization to run successful surfing competition and create a community we could all be a part of. I believe the SLSA has achieved this and has continued to grow and improve from the original set up.

I have been held all positions in a competition, from Event Coordinator, to Marshal and Judge, and most importantly, a surfer.

Currently, I am co-owner of Bluff Cove surf sim, wave rider designs, and the blog Surfside (virtualsurfside@wordpress.com).

I am available to serve an entire 6-month term.

l Rayzza Rubble officially put my hand up to apply for the position of director of the slsa. l’m a member of the HOF, have over 30 yrs rl surfing experience, surfed against the no 3 in the world at Cresso one yr and got my ass kicked, hahahaa, my surfing ties in sl come from my involvement with Monkey cove, Ran the Aussie Surf Assoc for a few yrs, running comps having fun times,, Surf designer, surfboards and clothing, also had alot of input to the design of LSD waves and surfboards, not to mention lm a larrakin, so u’ll get a laugh. l’d really like to see the slsa get back on track l feel its lost its way in the last 12 months.

Flynn Sheridan Elected to SLSA Board of Directors

In a special by-election held Tuesday, May 19, Flynn Sheridan was elected to the SLSA Board of Directors in an open seat following the resignation of Zelda Zimberman.

Due to the resignation of one the SLSA Board of Directors’ members, a by-election is being held for the remainder of her term today.  Candidates running for the seat are: Cierra Theriac, Rayzza Rubble, Robbin Ember, and Annie Panties. My name is Annie Panties (Jadeeast) and i submit my name for Director for SLSA.
I had served one term as Director in the past and i feel i can fairly and diplomatically serve the remaining terms that is needed at this time.
We seem to have too much drama here and i will close that gap and make surfing the priority it should be with fun not drama. I had been called in the past the “voice of reason” and my strong points would be to work with the current Directors and members of SLSA to smooth any remaining rough edges that are here and move forward to build on the strong points that SLSA was founded on.
The brief time i spent on the Board i saw a dedicated group who works with the rules of SLSA and also has the best intentions of the group in mind in their fair and honest decisions.

I, Zelda Zimberman, am able to stand as director and fulfill the full six month term. I surf for Montego team. I’ve been surfing slsa comps since 2011 and enjoy having fun during the comps.

I like surfing with everyone and open to help out the group. I’m trying for director so I can see it still running. My vision for the slsa is for it to just be active. I think collaboration and word of mouth from everyone is important for the slsa to be noticed. I would also like to see more participation and most importantly, everyone having fun! ^.^

For anyone considering jumping into the March 1st election  for SLSA Directors, this is a reminder you  must send in your nomination on note card to all sitting directors (Summerrain Garnet, MissyLovesu, Daphne Yardley, Lanky Silvercloud and Petra Xaris) by midnight SLT tonight, February 15th.

You may read more about it at the SLSA forum, here is the url.

The SLSA needs members willing to give some time and effort, as well as have fun, to be one of the directors of the SLSA. There are 2 seats opening up. If there aren’t at least 2 people willing to run:

2.3.1.5. If there are less candidates eligible or willing to run for election than there are numbers of open Director’s seat(s), all events shall be suspended and the election re-scheduled.

That means the competition at Chi may have to be postponed. If you are interested in helping out the SLSA and being on the Board of Directors, submit your self-nomination today!

I, Summer Amaranth (SummerRain Garnet) wish to add my name to the list of nominees for board of directors for December- May 2015. If I am elected, I am willing and able to accept the responsibilities that go along with being a member of the Board of Directors of the SLSA.

I am currently a co-capt with team Da Hui.

As you all know I hold a current Board of Director seat with the SLSA and if elected to carry on I will do my best to help see SLSA succeed to the best of my ability. I have enjoyed my time as a chair with the Board of Directors and enjoyed meeting new people and getting more involved.

My surfing journey started back in 2011, I was a lone surfer for a good awhile before coming into the SLSA a year ago. I compete in competitions when possible (hard for me to do both EC/surf at the moment) and I am also a trained EC, Marshal and Judge with the SLSA. I personally don’t care about ranking but would rather spend my time serving as the SLSA needs people to volunteer.

I feel like I bring good things here to the SLSA and would like to further serve if you all would have me..

OK, so, I’m Missy Lovesu (missylovesu resident) and I am willing and able to serve as a director for a full term beginning December 1, 2014.

I am an enthusiastic but thoroughly mediocre surfer and a proud member of the T’ai Ch’i Zen Team. I have been in SL since September 2012, and am in my fourth season of SLSA competition. I spend a lot of time here and have a lot of wonderful friends and do all kinds of things to amuse myself in SL, but VERY high on the list is my participation in SLSA.

I have always had an interest in RL surfing and have some (very slight) RL experience, so when some friends introduced me to SL surfing, I immediately fell in love with it. I have truly enjoyed being part of the SL surfing community and would love to see it continue and grow.

On the negative side, I have never qualified to judge any competition and in between competitions, I tend to forget how to surf each board and have to relearn from more or less scratch, which goes a long way towards explaining the “thoroughly mediocre” portion of my relatively undistinguished SL surfing resume. 

My vision for SLSA — OK, well, number one, we should seriously consider eliminating management-speak cliches like “vision statements.” *laughing* More seriously, obviously our number one responsibility is making sure that the competitions take place and run as smoothely and fairly as possible. To that end, we need to guard against unnecessary drama, which I believe is a cancer that could kill the SLSA if it ever got out of control. Also, it is important that SLSA not only be run fairly and impartially, but also transparently enough so that anyone with an open mind can be confident of our integrity. As a Director, I would always keep that in mind.

So, if I became a Director, I don’t think it would be a disaster for SLSA, but if enough better qualified candidates stand for election, I will CHEERFULLY campaign for them. Thank you!

My name is Annie Panties or Jadeeast and i have been surfing since June of 2013. I am currently a Director having the responsibilities of HR and now Sponsors. I would like to run for re-election as i feel there is more i can assist with and contribute and learn. i belong to the Montego surf team and also have been trained as a Marshall. I am also looking forward to being trained as a Judge as this would give me a better perspective on what a judge looks for in a contest. I have signed up for the training. I have met many great people here and want to see SLSA do well here in the competitive climate as SL and give surfers what they need to have fun and compete.

My name is, Petra Xaris, and I’ve been a SLSA director for 3 terms. I can remember when I first decided to run, it was simply to help out and after almost 1 1/2 years of doing this job, I still feel the same way. I’m here to help in whatever way I can so that our organization keeps moving forward.

I love that we have tried to make the community more a part of some of the bigger decisions we’ve made in the last year. For example the decision to include the C-3 surfboard in competitions. I don’t think anyone would argue that as a community we made the right decision to include the C-3 surfboard in our comps. What a fun board and great comp we had at Bundy Reef this season!

And so, If you all would like me to stay on, I’ll do my best to help in whatever way I’m needed so that we may all enjoy our monthly comps as well as the other functions we have in our community.
