Dear Member,

We’ve had various changes to our Event Rules over the last couple of months and we are sending out this letter to all surfers because we want to be sure everyone understands the new rules that have been put in place and what these changes mean to you.

1. Rule Regarding Post Comp Score Inquires
Rule Summary:
If you have any questions regarding your scores following the end of a competition please contact a member of the Board of Directors do NOT go directly to judges.

Event Rule:

15.3 Post Comp Score Inquiries
Following the close of the event, post comp score inquiries can be made ONLY through the EC (if the EC is a Director) or one of the other Directors. At NO time may a surfer contact judges directly regarding their scores.

2. Rule Regarding Heat Draw Assignment for Opens and Pros

Rule Summary:
In the past preliminary heat draw assignment was doine according to rank. This is no longer the case. We will be using the registration for Heat draw assginment and it will now be a first come first serve basis. We will also continue to be taking early and late heat requests.

Event Rules for Heat Draw Assignments:
==================================================================
5.1 Open Heat Assignment

Surfers assigned to the Open event (see 1.4) are ordered by the sign up registration. First surfer that signs up goes first, last surfer that signs up goes last. When someone requests an early or late heat, then they are bumped to front or the back based on order of registration. The first person to request an early heat would be bumped up to first surfer, the second person to request an early heat would be bumped up to the second spot. Same for those that request late heats, first to request a late heat would get bumped to the end, the next second from last and so on.

5.2 Pro Heat Assignment

Surfers assigned to the Pro event (see 1.4 and see 17.2) are first ordered by the sign up registration. The first surfer that signs up goes first, last surfer that signs up goes last.
==================================================================

3. Rule Regarding How Surfers Advance from Preliminary Heat to Semi and Semi to Final

Rule Summary:
In the past, we had winners of heats that would advance first and then for the prelims 6 next highest scores for a total of 12 and for Finals winners of Semi heats and then 3 next highest scores for a total of 6. That has been simplified. We no longer have winners of heats. Advancement from Prelims to Semi’s and Semi’s to Finals is done solely on scores. Highest scores advance regardless of what heat you surf in.

Event Rules Regarding Advancing by Scores:
===================================================================

5.4 Pro Semi-Final Assignment

Surfers shall advance to the semi-finals based on score. The Top 12 scoring surfers from the Preliminary Heats will advance to the Semi-Finals. If there is a tie for the 12 position, a surf-off will be conducted. Heat assignments will be highest score is Red 1, 2nd highest score is Red 2, 3rd highest score is Red 3, 4th highest score is Blue 1, etc. In the event that there is a tie score within the top 12 scorers, every attempt will be made to avoid surfers from the same Pro preliminary heat, being in the same Pro semi-final.

5.5 Pro Final Assignment

Surfers shall advance to the Finals based on score. The Top 6 scoring surfers from the Semi-Final heats will advance to the Finals. If there is a tie for the 6th position, a surf-off will be conducted. Top 12 scores advance to the semi heats. If there is a tie for the 12th position there will be a surf off. Top 6 scores advance to the Final heat. If there are any ties for 6th position there will be a surf off.

4. Smaller Open Events

At times in the last couple of seasons we have had less than the required 31 sign up for our comps. We were seeing Opens canceled due to this and decided it would be better for our surfers and staff to hold Opens even if they are smaller ones. This is especially true for our newest members and new staff members whom need to gain experience. It’s fun to get your feet wet in an Open and have that experience among other new surfers. We will now be holding Opens as long as we get 25 or more surfers signed up for our comps.

We ask that all surfers bear with us while we get used to these new rules. Thank you and Happy Surfing Everyone!
