For those of you that like to fiddle with stuff or just wonder how a surfboard works, Revy Lunasea (Revlon Benoir) has released a full-permission Do-It-Yourself surfboard kit. As soon as I heard about it, I logged in and snagged one. I have yet to put it together… but I looked over the instructions and it doesn’t look too complicated. Those of you out there, that are not as technologically challenged as I am, can really have some fun with this. Oh yeah, did I say they are free? They are FREE for the taking. And playing. Although you can’t put together a board that can be used in an SLSA competition, it does get the knowledge out there for some talented scriptors to start learning how to make surfboards. It sounds like a lot of fun to do and I can’t wait to get started.
Item of note: these kits are not for resale and the boards created from them are not intended to be resold either. Revy has made everything in the kit full-permission so you can fiddle and customize to your heart’s content, but please don’t abuse that and try to sell the boards. The note included in the instructions does say “You may use the kit as a starting point for creating your own surfboards for sale. If you do this you must maintain the credits at the top of the script.” If you need more help then the basic instructions located in the kit you can go to Revy’s site for more info.
Included in the kit are:
2 Sculpt Maps
1 Deck Texture
1 Sculpt Map Texture
(okay, she lost me at sculpt… but I am determined to be able to make my own board!)
You can pick up your kit at Pray 4 Surf and Surfcrazy. (You can also pick up a kit at all the SurfCrazy locations.)
